Our Story

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Vicki and I am the dyer, embroidery designer and general ‘do-er’ behind The Beautiful Stitch.

I live in Devon with my partner, three daughters and our labrador pups, Remy and Nala. We live equidistance between the sea and the moors and I am lucky to have so much natural inspiration all around, both for my embroideries and for dye colours.

When I’m not stitching, dyeing my hands all the colours of the rainbow (how do I manage to split so many pairs of gloves?!) and being ‘Mum’, I persevere with running and enjoy walking for miles around the gorgeously scenic county we live in. The other key thing about me…I’m never happier than when I’m in the sunshine!

I came to embroidery and dyeing quite late, having spent some fifteen years plus in NHS roles. As like so many who find and enjoy crafts, I picked up a needle and thread in 2018 to counteract a highly stressful day job. There is a mediative quality in stitching, a rhythm you can find in the stitches that allows your mind to either switch off or ponder dilemmas as needed. Soon after I started embroidery, I started to sketch out my own designs, and alongside that dyeing my own fabrics and threads which I also started to sell via social media and word of mouth.

After deciding that I had managed all of the mergers of companies that I ever wanted to I made the decision to focus on the things that I love doing. The Beautiful Stitch has evolved from my social media name to the name of my fibre-based business. My dye studio specialising in linens, cottons, hand dyed threads for use in embroidery, slow stitch projects, quilting – whatever fibre-based project you can think of! – sitting side by side with my own embroidery designs, some of which use the very fabrics and flosses I carefully colour.

I’m really glad to be able to share my enthusiasm and love of all things fibre and stitching related with you!
